So, WSUS has failed to sync with MS since the last patches were pulled down yesterday. I have spent an hour trying to debug it, when I happened to mention it to my friends (2 of which work at MS), and 1 came back and said it was a known issue and that they were working on it. I asked if it was posted anywhere and the response I got was:
Probably not.. WSUS team was disbanded the sync failures are causing everyone's delta sync to retry as a full, causing load on windows update.. so you might see timeouts now too best option is to uncheck win11, let it sync.. then re-check it when the issue is resolved.. or just wait it out. windows update people don't have as much skin in the game, but they are fixing it
Great. So basically expect this kind of crap moving forward. I did get a basic solution for the time being. I unchecked Windows 11 in WSUS to get it to work for now.
These announcements tend not to happen when there is a ready drop-in replacement, but simply that they no longer want to spend money supporting the existing platform and have a new monetization strategy. So, basically, yes. You can either spend more money on a not-the-same replacement (intune, etc.) or deal with headaches like this. It's really frustrating.
True, but WSUS is a feature included with Server 2025 which is supported until 2034.
This lack of support for operating system core features that we just paid $100k's to license Windows Server 2025 (in an attempt to force customers to spend even more money) is despicable.
Consider... Some people buy Windows Server for IIS, some for file server or AD. Maybe I bought it for WSUS, and this is how Microsoft thanks me for my purchase -- by abandoning me.
Absolutely agree. Maybe the WSUS team should have said they planned on adding AI to the product, then maybe Microsoft would care.
