For Arc-enabled servers, Azure Update Manager is charged at a daily prorated value of $0.162/server/day which amounts to $5/server/month (assuming 31 days of connected usage). A machine enabled by Azure Arc would only be charged for days when it’s connected to Arc and managed by Azure Update Manager.
This is somewhat misleading as ANY schedule attached to the server will make the server count as connected resulting a $5 cost per month. Why are we billed for running periodic assessments? Scheduling to run updates once per month, the same result.
This can be circumvented by not enabling schedules and running the assessment and update on the same day manually from AUM. This way you are billed only for the one day.
I want AUM to become better and not force customers to compromise security by not affording to use automatic updates.
