If you only wanted to use WSUS there was never a unified wizard for setting everything up is what I mean. WID, even in Windows Server 2025, is a kind of SQL 2012 LocalDB instance which would be otherwise unsupported and was never updated.
WSUS required IIS. But never itself setup all the requirements correctly like pool settings and thus was prone to crash the IIS application and so it goes on.
Wanted to setup a cert for SSL / TLS, no integrated wizard. This is now a requirement and no longer optional.
That's what I consider when I said it was never fully integrated. It was a mix and match of a feature with MMC, partly integrated into Server Manager and other than that required quite some guidance. Leaving alone local or remote management or DB optimization or client identifier corrections. I think Adam did an amazing job putting everything together in his paid tool, which still does offer a great ROI.
