But... think of the securities. We must save the securities from our stupid users. We must bitlocker them out of their own data (forced in HOME 24h2). We must grab screenshots that can be easily exploited (that aged really well). Not to mention the drive bloat from all these screen shots. Really the team that sold this idea to management should be fired, what exactly were they thinking? "Hey, let's build a data collection virus and call it a feature. Yeah, that sounds like a great idea, put it forward!"
You need to make things opt in, not jump through a dozen hoops to opt out. If you aren't careful, there will be laws created around this stuff because the general public is starting to get to that point. Look at what Adobe is going through and look at the turmoil you created with copilot and grabbing screen (and maybe keystroke) data.
Yes I know, if you make it opt in, no one will do it and you'll lose whatever money is associated with the project and the data being sold. But I'll tell you the truth, I'm at the point where I'm going to start talking to my elected representatives about some of these concerns, and pushing forward for a "users rights to privacy" bill. I doubt it will go anywhere, the American public at large is too lazy to care, but you know Europe will not stand for this stuff. And to be clear, I know some Linux distros harvest data too and use an opt out method (yes even the mighty Debian is opt out during the install process, uncheck the box with no hoops to jump through).
Back on track... Why did it take so long for Windows 11 LTSC to be created? Why not release it in the first year knowing that many facilities have need for this release? Yes I know, you want to make sure it is feature rich, but half of those features are stripped out of LTSC, which is the whole point. I'm lucky enough to be allowed to roll out Education, but LTSC would have been my first choice. I have a bunch of GPO that I need to dig through to try and remove a pile of "stuff" that just doesn't apply to my use case with our students. They are here for learning, not playing included games. Not getting distracted by the weather widget, or news widget, or etc. Phone link? What security policy is it's right mind will allow users to link their phone to a common use computer in a classroom??? And yes I know, student accounts are free, but we pay a large amount for our E level contract, try throwing us a bone and bring out LTSC earlier next time. Also open up IOT for those with a plan big enough or special enough to warrant the use of IOT. Every police computer, ambulance, hospital, primary care facility, etc. should be running a nice secure version of IOT. Out of the three or four "appliances" that I bought in the last three years, only one of those paid the extra money for IOT and the others should have had the option. There are all long term devices that do specific tasks and use few of the "features" that Pro offers.
