I just went through a Windows 10 situation on a new HP Mobile Workstation 17G6 with the OEM Windows 10 version of 1809 being problematic after updates, when getting "locked up" when attempting to move to update 1909. After numerous hard drive re-formats and reloading, the problem seemed to be associated with the Samsung 970 Pro M.2 SSD drivers and Samsung Magician performance drive software. Once I went through the initial loading process without the Samsung drivers, all I had to do was switch back and forth a few update advance tab settings to "kick start" the 1809 updates that were "hanging up" at the "ready to install phase. Update 1909 was a bit "quercky" with loading, processing, reloading, but finally initialized and fully loaded. My idea with this high end laptop was to be a true desktop replacement with 2 - Samsung 970 Pro M.2 SSD 1TB hard drives, and a 3rd Samsung 2TB SATA SSD drive that can be run in "Rapid Mode" using the Samsung Magician software to have the similar high Read / Write speeds as the M.2 PCIe drives - using additional computer resources.
I hope this helps...now I can load in the rest of what I need to...
