Windows Package Manager (WinGet) 1.8 now allows IT professionals to download Microsoft Store apps.
What is WinGet?
WinGet is a command-line tool that enables you to install and manage application...
Sure, some of those versions would install on Win10.
As I remember the 2021.2101.28.0 would install on Win10 but is definitely outdated.
The version which should have been provided at the date I wrote my comment on July 30th would be File 2021.2403.8.0 for Win10 which then shows up as Version number 11.2403.8.0.
As I remember the 2022-Versions of THIS App are not able to install on Win10, but suitable for Win11.
This "2021" has really NOT the meaning of that this was released in 2021 - no, absolutely not.
For example 2021.2403.8.0 was released as I remember in March or April this year 2024. and 2021.2101.28.0 was released before in January this year 2024.
But be aware, those Version-Numbers (e.g. 2022-Prefix for Win11) differ from App to app - you have to find out for every InBox-App again which is suitable.
Easyest way to find out is to have an online-connected Win10-PC, doing all MS-Store-Updates and then query the currently installed version numbers for the apps you are looking for:
So I again did this today on 08. August 2024: Today Version 11.2406.57.0 is installed on my updated Win10-Machine and should be provided by winget:
PS C:\> winget list "Clock" --source msstore
Name ID Version
-------------------------------------
Windows-Uhr 9WZDNCRFJ3PR 11.2406.57.0
Looking at the "Settings" Button inside the App we can prove this Version Number is correct, for example here:
Version "11.2406.57.0" would be expected to be FileVersion 2021.2406.57.0 in this case (for Win10). I just re-validated what I get with winget today, did a "winget download" again right now:
=> and YEAH! Great News. Today it seems to work better. File 2021.2406.57.0 is provided!
It is still totally weird for somebody not aware of those different versions, but at least if you KNOW what you have to look for (xxxx.2406.57.0) you have a good chance to easily find the right file 2021.2406.57.0 and apply it to Win10. The 2022 will not work, the older 2021.2101.28.0 would work but is an old outdated version.
I have to look up InBox-App by InBox-App if this works now for other apps too.
As I said, my Windows Alarm Apps was just an example, same problem for several other InBox-Apps too. I checked this in mid-July in depth for ALL InBox-Apps. As I was not able to download the needed files with winget download I again ended up using https://store.rg-adguard.net/
