Bryan Keller and Joe_Lurie - I have a question that I could not find documented or described anywhere.
When testing installs of MSI and EXE Installers in the new Microsoft Store, we realized that the user initiating the install needs to have local admin privileges on his system. Generally, our users don't have these privileges as we roll out Software (or offer Self Services) using SCCM and Intune. Will the Store/Intune integration targeted for this year allow for installation of Store MSI/EXE Installers without the user having Local Admin Privileges?
Also, I wonder whether you could elaborate somewhat broadly on the enterprise update options that you have planned. Right now, I recall there is no store update option at all for MSI/EXE Installers - those apps have to rely completely on vendor-provided auto-updaters which allow no enterprise update control at all. Are you planning to improve this?
Finally, I have to say I was quite surprised when I first tested MSI/EXE support in the New Store. I assumed that you would allow vendors to supply EXE/MSI and then automatically package those as MSIX to utilize benefits like clean uninstall. Realizing that you just pull the EXE/MSI to the client and execute them was a disappointment. I really hope you can implement tech to help vendors move to MSIX even when they supply classic installers to the store. This installer mess needs to go away from a security and operational stability perspective.
