Ricoh will start supporting Microsoft Universal Print including native support with our Smart Operation Panel application, so customers can easily register printers in Azure AD for Universal Print.

Integrating Ricoh Smart Operations Panel MPS with Universal Print offers the following benefits to customers:

  • Administrators can distribute printers to Azure AD joined Windows devices. Devices users can print directly to the cloud-configured service from any Windows device when connected to the internet and authenticated to Azure AD (Active Directory).
  • Centralized print reporting capabilities allow IT admins to view print job history and usage reports.
  • Ricoh printers with native support of Universal Print will not require an on-premises print server or printer driver installation.
  • There is a function to set the user privileges, so users can only print to those printers.
  • Data is encrypted during transfer over the network and when stored in non-volatile storage.
  • Ricoh printers without native support for Universal Print can be use with the Universal Print connector to take advantage of the Universal Print benefits.

I have several doubts about the Ricoh support for Universal Print:

    • Bullet points state that some Ricoh printers natively support Universal Print. Where can I find this list of printers?
    • Does the universal print connector which is the on premises part always have to be installed in order to register Ricoh printers?
    • Do all Ricoh printers that have a Smart Operating Panel allow printer registration without having to install a Universal print Connector?
    • Where can I find guidance on how to register printers through the SOP on Universal Print?

Ricoh is currently in process of developing an app for Android-based Smart Operation Panels(SOP) and is expected to be available this year. It is going to offer native, hardware support.  There are other options that require additional software solutions like e.g RSI control + but it is slightly beyond just hardware.

  • I need more info.  We do not want to user the connecter but our new IM C3500 and C6500 do not seem to have any feature for universal print.  Please advise.

I would love more information about Ricoh supporting MS Universal Print directly from the SOP.  As of now, there is no support information in Ricoh-usa.com at all about supporting MS Universal Print.  Can you direct me to a page that gives particulars?
