So sorry, but this is incredibly confusing.

So, earlier "Hilary_Braun" said:

This announcement only pertains to the Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store. It does not impact the Remote Desktop client standalone installer (MSI). That version is still available for download and is still supported.

We are still using the Remote Desktop Connection app. Is that the MSI client on everyone's computer? It comes standard on all Windows computers. We never used the one available in Microsoft Store.

So, this is what we are using right now...

Sincerely,

The "MSI" which is mentioned is actually MSRDC, the out-of-box version of mstsc, which is only officially supported for Azure Virtual Desktop. Yes, this announcement is indeed very confusing, as it does not affect mstsc, the built-in RDP client which comes with Windows. I've even seen blog posts about this announcement use screenshots of mstsc. Everybody is confused, we need something in bold that says:

    MSTSC IS NOT GOING AWAY

I've been clearing the confusion for a couple of people since this announcement came out. To most people, the "Remote Desktop app for Windows" means the RDP client that comes with Windows, and who can blame them for thinking that?

      Hi mamoreau,

Thank you for the clarification. I agree with you. Saying something like "MSTSC is not going away" would really clear things up.

So, then the answer is yes, I can still use my Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc.exe) after May, 2025.
