We’re happy to share that an updated community analytics experience is now available for everyone to try on Viva Engage! We built upon the existing community insights foundation and added some long-awaited features to help you better understand the engagement trends of your Engage communities.

While any member of the Viva Engage network can see analytics for public communities, only members can see analytics for private communities.

This analytics update includes some of the feature requests we frequently receive from customer communication teams:

  • Real-time data updates
  • Expanded date range options with CSV export compatibility
  • Top conversations overview table
  • New engagement breakdowns

Community Managers who have the Viva Community & Communication licenses will also have access to advanced analytics such as:

  • Time saved
  • People helped
  • Frequent contributors
  • New members
  • Unanswered questions and conversations without engagement

For more information about the new metrics and their definitions see: Monitor engagement in Viva Engage with analytics - Microsoft Support.

Turn insights into action

We partner with data scientists and researchers to surface the most relevant insights within our analytics dashboard to help you manage your communities more efficiently. Many of the new metrics you see related to admin engagement are designed to help you better understand the important role admins play in keeping a community thriving. Our research has also found communities that diversify the type of content they post tend to garner more engagement. By monitoring the total posts chart and reviewing the breakdown of post types, you can better understand how to diversify posts made within your community.

The new “Top conversations” table helps you review which conversations and questions are getting the most engagement within your community. While reviewing the top conversations table, admins can also click through and explore richer conversation analytics to better understand which posts are driving the most engagement within their communities.

Admins in premium licensed tenants will also be able to access the community optimizer page which contains a list of the most frequent contributors, new members and conversations that could benefit from receiving more engagement to help you boost community activity.

Engaging with dormant conversations can help reinvigorate community activity. Did you know that simply adding a reaction could help admins retain twice as many of their community members? Our studies show that new users who post and get no engagement are twice as likely to disengage than users who get a reply or reaction on their posts.

Also available in premium tenants, the “People helped” and “Time saved” metrics can help community admins understand the impact of their communities in distributing knowledge across the organization.

Get started today!

To access Community Analytics, select the analytics icon in the community’s header. Admins also have exclusive access to a right rail summary card within communities they manage. The previous access rights remain; everyone can see community analytics for public communities while only members can see the analytics of private communities.

What’s coming soon?

We’ve got more exciting additions coming soon for premium licensed tenants. Keep an eye out on Message Center and the Viva Engage Customer Connection communities for updates about the following releases.

Custom date range: You’ll be able to customize the period of data you’re viewing both on community and conversation analytics.

AI sentiment analysis, theme extraction and conversation summarization: Leveraging the technology powering network and audience analytics, we’ll help you see the most popular themes from conversations in your communities.

The images shared in the coming soon section are subject to change prior to launch.

Not a fan of the updates. I preferred the daily data I could export via CVS export; I don't see any benefit in the new CSV export, why would I want to know the total number activities vs tracking it over time?
