Community Manager Appreciation Day takes place every 4th Monday of January as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of community managers around the world using social media and other tools to improve customer experiences. It was created by Jeremiah Owyang in 2010.
People are encouraged to send sincere Thank You notes to their online community managers. People can include the #CMAD and #CMGR hashtag in their posts about this event. Many online community managers and vendors in the social media marketplace post blogs in appreciation of their community managers.
Community managers play an essential role in connecting employees, sharing news and announcements throughout organizations, unlocking knowledge and expertise, and giving every employee a voice. At Microsoft, we are incredibly thankful for your trust and commitment to our platform and we strive to give you the tools you need to succeed. In honor of CMAD we’d like to celebrate today with a few ways we are improving community management in Viva Engage.
Copilot Adoption Community
AI adoption is top of mind for many companies right now, and community managers play a critical role in helping navigate and support employees in their journey. The Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption community makes it easier for users to ask questions, seek support from peers and IT admins, and learn best practices for Copilot.
This ready-made community removes the set-up work to get the community off the ground quickly. Easily add a cover photo, description, and follow the onboarding checklist. Admins can edit and customize as needed. Learn more here.
Community Experts
We recently announced Community Experts in communities. Community experts can mark the best answers, pin posts, and ensure valuable insights and accurate information flow, but they cannot manage members or assign roles. Read the full blog here.

Moderation tools in Viva Engage can support an effective forum where employees trust the information shared and feel safe sharing their knowledge and experiences. These moderation tools are broadly categorized into content level and community level tools.

Brand new and updated community analytics
After the newest updates rollout, users will be able to keep up with their community's activities in real time. We have added additional data ranges to support periods of 7 days, 28 days, 90 days, and 365 days. Coming next is custom date range! We have also added a new top conversations table that displays the conversations with the most engagement in the community and new Q&A engagement metrics, including an overview of most popular questions.
Community analytics now will be in real time and include more metrics to help track community engagement over longer time periods. Community analytics are no longer accessed from the About tab. Instead, users can access community analytics by selecting the Analytics icon from the community page.

Hide Community Resources
Now you can hide the community resources section of a community. Don't have a need to showcase the SharePoint Library or OneNote. Simply hide them with a quick toggle.
Multi-pin Conversations in a Carousel
Rolling out now is the ability to pin up to six posts a the top of the community feed. When you pin two or more posts, the carousel feature will automatically activate, enhancing visibility and engagement. This feature is available by default with no admin action required.
