Avoid disruptions in Microsoft Teams and migrate now!

On October 14, 2025, support for Windows 10 Team Edition will end. On the same date, the Microsoft Teams App on Windows 10 Team will also stop functioning, devices will no longer be able to log into Microsoft Teams.

This means any Surface Hub 2S devices that remain on Windows 10 Team after that date will lose the ability to join Teams meetings and will no longer receive critical security updates. In short: your meeting spaces will be at risk of disruption and may be left offline.

If your organization is still running Surface Hub 2S devices on Windows 10 Team, now is the time to act.

Migration is paramount to ensure your teams continue to deliver the modern Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows (MTR-W) experience on Surface Hub.

Migration Options for Surface Hub 2S

There are three supported paths to migrate Surface Hub 2S devices from Windows 10 Team to Windows 11 with MTR-W. Use the guide below to choose the right option for your organization:

What About Surface Hub v1?

Surface Hub v1 devices cannot be migrated to Windows 11.

However, they don’t need to become “paperweights.” Many customers have successfully repurposed them as interactive external displays for whiteboarding or digital signage.

Why Upgrade to Microsoft Teams Rooms for Windows (MTR-W)

Migrating isn’t just about avoiding end of support—it unlocks a modern, AI-enhanced meeting experience and enterprise-grade operations:

  • Long-term servicing, security & lifecycle — With the Surface Hub 3 Compute Cartridge, devices receive driver and firmware support through December 2030.
  • Consistent, proven experience — MTR-W brings feature parity with other Teams Rooms on Windows endpoints across your estate (layouts, device behaviors, admin controls), so users get a familiar experience in every room.
  • AI-enhanced hybrid meetings — Unlock IntelliFrame (smart, participant-focused video feeds) and related intelligent camera capabilities that make in-room participants clearer and more engaging to remote attendees.
  • Inclusive layouts built for collaboration — Use Front Row to keep people, content, and chat visible at once, improving engagement and co-creation in hybrid meetings.
  • Pro-grade management & reliability — Enroll rooms in the Teams Rooms Pro Management service for proactive monitoring, inventory, remote configuration, alerting, and update orchestration; manage devices centrally alongside the Teams Admin Center.
  • Enterprise readiness at scale — Follow Microsoft’s plan-deploy-operate guidance to standardize configurations, enforce policies, and streamline site-by-site rollouts for large deployments.

Upgrading ensures Surface Hub becomes a purpose-built MTR-W endpoint—secure, manageable, and continuously improved with Microsoft’s Teams Rooms roadmap.

Next step: Once migrated, enroll your Surface Hubs into the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal to ensure proactive monitoring, health insights, and reliable operations at scale.

What’s Next for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Surface Hub

  • Miracast support is on track to release by the end of December 2025
  • Regular Teams Rooms updates will continue to bring parity with other certified Teams Rooms devices, keeping your collaboration spaces modern and consistent
