From Derek's article and your post here, this is what I take away.  Does this seem correct?

  • Both TF 12618 and TF 12656 were added in SQL Server 2022 CU4
  • TF 12618 is Welch’s t-test. The TF 12618 behavior is on by default in SQL Server 2025, so TF 12618 is not needed.
  • TF 12656 is the time-based recheck. The TF 12656 behavior is NOT on by default in SQL Server 2025. You still have to enable TF 12656 if you want the time-based check globally (or use sys.sp_configure_automatic_tuning for an individual query ID)
