AdventureWorks has long been one of the most used database samples to run demos. Its downloads and scripts are now available in the SQL Server Samples repository in GitHub . If you have the download links in any of your scripts or automations, please update links to use the new download location .

With this, the Codeplex repository will be archived to read-only at the end of November. We left the AdventureWorks files intact on Codeplex so we wouldn’t break existing links. But, we ask everyone to start using the new GitHub location going forward.

The downloads and scripts on GitHub have these improvements:

  • The AdventureWorks and AdventureWorksDW install scripts work on any version of SQL Server. Each script auto-generates the right database compatibility to match the current SQL Server instance. This means you can quickly install either database on any release of SQL Server including CTPs, SPs, and any interim release.
  • The AdventureWorks download page lists all the .bak files for each SQL Server version, including SQL Server 2016 and SQL Server 2017.
  • The SQL Server 2016 CTP3 sample databases are published on the site as .bak files and renamed to AdventureWorks2016_EXT and AdventureWorksDW2016_EXT.

Please try out the new downloads and scripts. If you have any issues or comments, please send feedback via this blog, or in GitHub.
