Welcome to Microsoft Inspire 2023: Introducing Microsoft 365 Backup and Microsoft 365 Archive

Emma_Kolocic "migrating outside SharePoint" is a scenario we see where customers will move inactive content out of SharePoint and onto an on-prem or public cloud archive storage system to save on their SharePoint costs. This first iteration of M365 Archive is positioned to give customers the option to keep that data in SharePoint for the security, compliance, privacy, metadata, and search benefits highlighted int he demo. In that case, instead of moving inactive files from a set of sites to an external storage location and losing those benefits, you can migrate the inactive files into a site and then archive that site. In future iterations of the tool, we'll have file level archiving where moving the file between sites will not be neccessary.
