To enhance collaboration, Microsoft 365 and Office 365 users with E3 and E5 licenses can now update the task progress, or “% complete”, of a task assigned to them in any project they are part of, without a Project license.

The users need to be part of the Office 365 group of the project to be able to open and update their task progress.

When an E3 or E5 licensed user who is part of the project’s Office 365 group opens the project, they will see the project page as shown below. “Limited Access” will be shown next to the project name to indicate that the user can only update the task progress of the tasks assigned to them.

The experience of updating the “% complete” field of a task will be as shown below:

There are no changes in the experience for users with licenses other than E3 and E5.

FAQ:

1. What license type does the user need to be able to update the task progress of a task assigned to them?

Only Microsoft 365 and Office 365 E3 and E5 users can update the “% complete” field for tasks assigned to them, without a Project license.

2. Can an E3 or E5 user update the “% complete” field for tasks assigned to any other project members?

No, they can only update the task progress of tasks assigned to them.

Will this apply to Dynamics 365 Project Operations as well?

A lot of my SMB customers are on Microsoft 365 Business Premium. It would be great for those smaller companies to also have the right to update their % of task completion information in project for the web. Maybe you could reconsider the license requirement and put business premium users on the same level as E3/E5 users.

AndrewNorris so far I know there is no way to do this, at best you can use roadmap to aggregate "some" tasks. I've been asking for To Do integration or some way to see them all in one single view, but so far, nothing.

Where can users see a list of all their tasks without having to go into each Project one by one?

When will assigned users be able to view and update tasks via the Tasks by Planner and To-Do app within Teams?
