Can't replace mid to long-term forecasting of resources with such tools like Planner. I suggest you look into other online PM tools such as monday.com work management. This is not about "traditional" or "modern" - this is just MS marketing terms to convince you your way of working is wrong. This is about necessities and requirements.
This makes total sense since Microsoft seems to not care about migrating customers to their next offering, not even within versions of SharePoint. It makes total sense to check what else might be out there. I have yet to see any change in MS GUI that was actually better than what they had before just more unintuitive.
