Had the same question, luckily Copilot helped me out:

To deactivate the portfolio mapping feature for Planner, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center: Log in with your admin credentials.
  2. Navigate to Settings: Click on "Show All" > "Settings" > "Org settings".
  3. Select Services: Find and click on "Project".
  4. Disable the feature: In the side panel that opens, uncheck the box for "Turn on Roadmap and Portfolio for your organization".

That said, it didn't solve the problem for me. I'm now waiting until the deactivation actually removes the Portfolio button to reactivate it again.

Update:
Waited a couple of minutes and reactivated the functionality. Works!
