Manage multiple plans effortlessly with the new Portfolios feature in Microsoft Planner
I have a Planner with a P3 plan and can see the Portfolio tab. The error "You need to have the latest portfolios solution installed. Contact your admin to fix this" appears with no solution or instructions on how to fix the problem. After contacting Microsoft Support, the engineer stated that Microsoft is still in the process of rolling out Portfolio to its customers. However, the 365 Message Center indicates that the product should be fully rolled out by the end of December 2024. How does one solve this error, considering the Portfolio feature is said to be enabled by default?
Ok, figured it out!
I had to deactivate and re-activate the Portfolio mapping feature. Apparently, for those who had this feature active when the rollout took place, it didn't update correctly.

Had the same question, luckily Copilot helped me out:
To deactivate the portfolio mapping feature for Planner, you can follow these steps:
- Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center: Log in with your admin credentials.
- Navigate to Settings: Click on "Show All" > "Settings" > "Org settings".
- Select Services: Find and click on "Project".
- Disable the feature: In the side panel that opens, uncheck the box for "Turn on Roadmap and Portfolio for your organization".
That said, it didn't solve the problem for me. I'm now waiting until the deactivation actually removes the Portfolio button to reactivate it again.
Update:
Waited a couple of minutes and reactivated the functionality. Works!- I_KenoJan 22, 2025Copper Contributor
Yep! I waited an hour - I have a busy schedule - and that did the trick.
