Karuana_Gatimu_MSFT - thank you for the feedback! While some people have gotten used to "boards", many/most have not. So without a Simple List view, people are resistant to Planner. Planner fell short from the beginning and has not lived up to its potential.
ReneBaumann -- ToDo app integration with Planner has not been consistent for me, maybe you are on a pre release version or something. In my To Do I have two old tasks from a "testing" planner set up in the past. In a new Planner, I assigned myself a task and it is not showing up in To Do. (EDIT: This task eventually came through)
In addition, all of the Planner tasks come though in one spot "Assigned to You", not by Team or Planner, so it is very disorganized.
I am optimistic about the new direction, but realistically, the current situation is a mess and has been for a long time. I am also considering Teams Calendar lack of functionality.
