It's definitely better that Microsoft change their practices and design things that users want, rather than want a half baked brand strategy dictates. And when there are things that they want to coax users towards, that they make them optional (and actually work properly before making them the default etc). Can you imagine that when microsoft added the task bar and start menu that it only contained 4 icons, to aplications you already had open 90 percent of the time? If it's the new awesome future and you want to see it take flight, at least make it do something useful before you introduce it? Let alone make it default, let alone make it mandatory?
To the anyone that thinks people sharing workaround instructions that have helped them are in any way condoning the way microsoft have done this: no one is saying that, if you just want to vent, vent at microsoft, not people sharing tips for undoing microsoft's actoins to the extent that's possible. And while making a registry change is not that hard to do and there are mountains of instructions for even the most computer shy person (should you want to try them, you don't have to if you don't feel able) no it's not good that microsoft have done it like this (any part of it, and still not fixed yet either). And yes if my doctor of 30 years says something's fine to do, I take that advice rather than intimate that they are condoning disease by suggesting imperfect cures to people? Ideally disease would not exist and all treatment would be simple, but the doctor is not to blame for any of that and the right thing for them to do is to share the best option they're currently aware of?
Also gave me a bit of a chuckle to see someone protesting getting too many unwanted messages (from a post they've asked for updates to) by adding another unwanted message to everyone else 😄
