I rarely comment on those modifications but this is frankly rubbish!
especially on laptops display real estate is precious and this modification removes a good chunk of it...
Consistency is not an excuse... you have a poor GUI design and for consistency you port it to other products that are perfectly fine... how about doin the opposite?
And I wonder... all those UI, UX, HF experts... where do they get their degrees from? Where are the Unis that produce those bright minds? And do they actually test this stuff before pushing it out? and since it is so simple to revert it back with a registry change... why forcing the change on people? MS gets a ton of metrics and info on us... how about asking if you want the change to take place, gathering the answers from the users, and learn your lessons?
But I guess they know better... and they charge us money for the privilege of using products forged by their superior wisdom...
How about less UX "experts" and more test engineers, MS? so when you release an upgrade you don't botch... i don't know... like all the logitech webcams? just saying... but I know testing, learning, and fixing is harder than changing things around and believing in your own bs....
