MicrosoftHopefully you've been reading the comments on how universally disliked this change is and that no one likes being forced into a change with no way to revert back to what we're used to. The comments on how this change is affecting the usable area of the screen by adding another column to the layout are very valid considering how many people work on smaller screens.
I doubt you made this change with any scientific ergonomic studies that made this location a positive change. For those of us that use large and super wide screens the additional eye movement, head turning, and mousing to get to the icons is inconvenient. It most likely was just a way to visually update your package so it would continue to look "new and fresh" without any thought to the user experience.
Since this is just in the testing stage please make sure there is a way to select icon location. Some might prefer it in the top bar, or on the right. Truly optional locations would be a positive change and be more than just superficial.
