Outlook for Mac adds new authentication flow for Google IMAP in Insider Fast

This is not working for me.  I see the sign-in box but when I choose an email address (e.g. xxxx@gmail.com)and put in the password, I persistently get a pop-up box which says that I have signed in to an email account which is not "xxxx@gmail.com".  Is there any way I can opt out of this feature?  I need to get on with work - it was all working yesterday and now I cannot receive and send via Outlook.

Same problem as the other commenters. I can go through the sign-in process with Google, but then the same pop appears again. Can go 3 or 4 times. Can we have the old system back please?

I am an Office365 subscriber (on MacBook) and am having the same issues as outlined in this thread. I am not on the Insider Program but it looks like Microsoft have rolled this out beyond the Insider Program to the Office365 Subscribers. I updated my Office365 today and now i cannot connect to my gmail via Outlook. 

I have tried the workaround mentioned above but that hasn't worked. I have already reached out within Outlook via Help menu > Contact Support (about 4 hours ago from the moment of posting this) and progress is unsatisfactorily slow and no solution identified. Each individual response is taking on average 30 minutes. My day has been wasted. Is there a solution, please?

It looks like Microsoft has been aware of this issue via Insider Program for more than 5 months now (according to this thread). Is there a solution? My day has been wasted.

Hi Ezell Kendrick: have you tried locking all keychains (via Keychain Access)? Sometimes locking then unlocking resolves this issue.

Here are few tips we're advising with existing IMAP users:

 - Ensure "User name" field contains the full email address and matches "E-mail address" field in Account preferences

 - If you have period characters in your email address, try without the period characters (both in Account preferences & Google sign-in)

 - Try locking and and unlocking your keychain in Keychain Access app

 - Try adding the account again (before removing the existing account), note the default for subscribers is new Google Account (not IMAP)

Also the same issue with one of my users.

None of the above troubleshooting steps mentioned worked - keychain deletions, all keychains locked or unlocked, Chrome or Safari, deleting Outlook profile in library and deleting and reinstalling Office 2019 altogether.

One of the errors mentions being logged into the wrong Gmail account -- this is incorrect, he's only logged into the single account he's trying to add.

The office 365 software is however licensed under a different email address from the Gmail/G Suite account we're attempting to add.

We can't work around this issue at all via the old app password method and have exhausted our options. We can't even "trick" Outlook into doing things the traditional way by choosing IMAP/POP and entering incorrect info as there's no way to add an account that doesn't "verify" the username/password is correct.

This issue began suddenly on Friday Feb 22, 2019 - not sure what may have changed - nothing on the Gmail side and the only thing that may have occurred was an Office app update.

Please help -- my Outlook for Mac stopped working this afternoon with gmail for no apparent reason.   It asks constantly for my password and when I enter it I receive the error that "Mail Cannot be Received at this Time" with the details

The server for account "rrmax1@gmail.com" returned the error "[AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)." Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?

I have re-entered my password with no luck.   What happened?   Gmail still works with outlook on my iPad and iPhone.   Help!!!

I am having the same problem after installing the most current upgrade yesterday, Outlook 2016 for MAC is unable to access Google Mail. The prompt to log into Google account keeps appearing and fails to sync outlook with gmail.

This is a major problem I am unable to use email and access folders that have very important information!

Also Help is not working it says that the Keychain cannot be accessed.

Is there a work around?

This does not work for me. I end up in a loop asking me over and over again to login my google account.

all my gmail settings are ok and as described. 

Please help since I cannot use Gmail anymore work outlook.
