I just got an email from DropBox. They are doing the same thing as OneDrive - Moving my files to my Library folder on my main drive with the next update.
THIS IS ALL APPLE'S FAULT. The update email from DropBox said Apple is "deprecating" whatever kernel allowed syncing to my external HD.
What this means is that, if you want to keep copies of your files on your computer AND in the cloud, you have pay Apple for a larger hard drive when you buy your next computer. Those of us who are cost conscious purchased our M1 macs with smaller internal hard drive and stored our files on an external hard drive and are screwed.
I think I am going to have to use a USB stick to move my files around, like I did 20 years ago. I cannot fit the 200 GB of files on my external HD onto my 256 GB internal drive that has only 98 GB free space. I can put keep a portion of my files to sync through a USB stick.
But I've learned from getting messed up by OneDrive doing what DropBox is about to do. I'm not loading DropBox. I don't want their update. I do not want DropBox moving my files. If you look online, there are many posts about business customers having terrible problems when the file directories are changed coincident with the moving of the location of the DropBox folder.
Curse you APPLE.
