BobD68 I'm not sure what you mean by "for the work you're doing". I'm a college professor (technically a "lecturer") - I teach physics at a small 4-year college. Our IT department issues laptops to faculty, though they're generally not adequate for anything but connecting to their server and presenting power point slides during class. I do have a Linux workstation that I bought for research, but for most uses a Mac laptop is more than enough and easily as fast as the Linux box, especially this new one with its M1 processor. I also compose music on the side as a hobby - and again, a Mac with a large external disk is quite adequate for my purposes.
As far as not enjoying life, well this OneDrive problem was a real fly in the ointment and I spent probably more time than I should have trying to figure it out. Our IT people are away for the holidays until next week, and classes start the week after that, so if the problem hadn't been resolved by then I would have been in panic mode as I really need to be able to access my OneDrive files from home. Lugging the underpowered laptop they gave me back and forth every day would have been a real pain. Luckily that's in the past - the problem's solved, life is good and all's well with the world. 🙂
