Liz_Atems_elisatems Yup. Like I said, AFP breaks Apple's own software, although it may be better with iCloud DriveāI only use that a little. Apple can say Microsoft's workaround is what breaks AFP, but the workaround wouldn't be necessary if AFP didn't insist on keeping the file cache on the system drive.
Also, I paid waaaaaay too much for that extra 500GB from Apple. It's true that putting everything into a sealed box lets them make their machines smaller, but it also forces their customers to buy more hardware from Apple. The Right to Repair activists need to look at abuses like this as well.
Emanuele_Barone thanks for the heads up. I just updated (not going to say upgraded) to Ventura and didn't know that was the case. I've looked at alternatives like Mountain Duck and StrongSync, but those had most of the same limitations. CloudSync would at least let me move my files from one provider to another . . . slowly, but even that probably won't help at this point.
