MichieGThank you for taking the time for writing such a helpful comment. I have now 'hydrated' most of my folders and the cloud icons have disappeared.
Unfortunately, I have a few folders that are showing as empty i.e. do not have any files in them. It is possible that I had previously moved the files from these folders, but I do not remember. I am terrified that I may have lost some of these files, as they were research documents that I collected a while ago to use in the future. Since I cannot say for sure that something is missing, I will not accuse MS of causing this; however....
None of this would have happened if MS had not initiated this problem in the first place. I have not ranted about this change up to now, but I am really angry about it today. As has been asked before, who gave MS the right to remove data from my hard drive (and only store it on their servers)?!?! Is that in the User Agreement that I have agreed to? And, like many others, I have wasted so much time dealing with this. I can only imagine how much lost productivity MS has caused around the world due to their initial errors with this change. Those responsible should be reprimanded or held accountable in some way. They should also apologize.
