I have to let you know that it doesn't appear that currently available builds of the OneDrive mac client are in fact not M1 native. Reddit users at r/MacOS have noted this exact same problem. I suspect that most current users are unaware of the signficant energy and CPU draw given the huge overhead available. However, the M1 native announcement is high profile, and Microsoft should correct this.
Both the downloaded versions from Microsoft's website as well as the App Store-provided app appear in Activity Monitor as "Intel," not Apple. The Cmd+I protocol to get info confirms that the application is an Intel app, not an Apple app. The device i used was purchased just this week - the machine has no old app or app framework in need of clearing - it has not had any builds prior to 22.045 installed.
I have included screencaps for reference to show you what I mean. Please fix this problem. I love OneDrive and want Microsoft to get out ahead of this.
