We hope all of you are taking care of yourselves and staying safe. The OneDrive team is hard at work to maintain service uptake as well as roll out features to provide quality product performance and experience.

Here are the latest functionalities that landed in production in the month of April-2020.

  • Sensitivity labels with protection for Office files in OneDrive and SharePoint
  • Version history in desktop
  • Ability to delete a locked file

Sensitivity labels with protection for Office files in OneDrive & SharePoint

Sensitivity labels are central to how your business-critical data is protected using Microsoft Information Protection (MIP). Admins can create a sensitivity label and associate protection policies like encryption and visual marking enabling your users to classify and protect organizational data.  You can also be assured that the protection will persist with the file throughout its life cycle. Yesterday, we announced general availability of sensitivity labels with protection for Office files in SharePoint and OneDrive. This is one more step to providing you comprehensive protection across documents and emails in Microsoft 365 services.

Learn about how you can enable sensitivity labels for Office files in SharePoint and OneDrive.

Version history in desktop

Roadmap ID: 61527

Users will now be able to view, restore and delete previous versions of their files directly in their desktop via File Browser or Mac Finder.

Ability to delete a locked file
Roadmap ID: 62665

We have received feedback that people are unable to delete a document in their OneDrive because they had it open in another tab on a different computer, or because someone else had it open and forgot about it, effectively locking the document. This new feature allows you as the file owner to override that lock and delete an Office file in your OneDrive while someone (or yourself) has it open, intentionally or not.

Sync app update process

We release updates to sync app for Windows and Mac through rings of validation which constitutes of Insiders, Production and Deferred rings. Deferred Ring was previously referred to as the Enterprise ring.

We encourage users to stay in the production ring which is the default. You can learn more about the OneDrive sync app update process here.

Learn more and stay engaged

As you can see, we continue to evolve OneDrive as a place to access, share, and collaborate on all your files in Office 365, keeping them protected and readily accessible on all your devices, anywhere.

You can stay up-to-date on all things via the OneDrive Blog and the OneDrive release notes. Take advantage of end-user training resources on our Office support center.

Thank you again for your support of OneDrive. We look forward to your continued feedback on UserVoice and hope to connect with you at Ignite or another upcoming Microsoft or community-led event.

Thanks for your time reading all about OneDrive,

The version history feature is available for every file format (i.e. exe), or only document apps? Thanks.

Is there a detailed roadmap with issues we can track?  I've reported several issues through O365 support and they seem pretty valid.  I have no idea if the team really knows or not.  If they consider it an issue or as designed.  I've reported through my clients and my own business issue with syncing getting stopped because of locked files, open out of date word files and sync issues when two users co-edit a document and they're on slightly different versions of Word or Excel.  Would like to get some kind of answer so I can guide clients on best use with OneDrive and O365.

And when will come the Checkin/Checkout Button to the OneDrive Client? 🙂
