I tried everything: resetting the app, uninstalling the app, installing the App store version instead of the MS Standalone. Nothing worked. I could SEE my files, but nothing I did would allow me access to them. They had the "down-cloud" icon, but no amount of clicking, or trying "leave all files on device" (what I've always had and wanted until MS decided otherwise) could get me the file.
I had a TimeMachine backup from December that had 99% of my files, so I went with that. Interestingly enough, the January TimeMachine backup had all my OneDrive files with the "down-cloud" icon and it wouldn't allow me to access them either. So it seems this madness has been going on since January - I just didn't notice it.
Long story short, that was 20 hours of my life, re-downloading everything 6 times over, about 30 emails with Microsoft who had literally no idea how to fix my problem. It was person 1 forwarding me to 2, then 3, then back to 1. Over and over.
I got a new laptop. Deleted everything and did a fresh reinstall of OneDrive and now it works. Basically, I had no option but to start from scratch - a clean install. JFC.
