Some of us are experiencing this issue after upgrading to the latest OneDrive app from the App Store (22.012.0117.0003): we can't access any files from our OneDrive folder.
In Finder, we see this "'OneDrive encountered an unexpected error. Items may be out of date. " error -
"Try again" does nothing.
In Terminal, we see 0 files -
In this https://www.reddit.com/r/onedrive/comments/rho5cl/onedrive_m1_native_build_items_might_be_out_of/, some folks attempted to get OneDrive to work, and I did this -
Thanks tohttps://www.reddit.com/u/BruceBede/andhttps://www.reddit.com/u/j_broom/for the tips, one more thing that I had to do was to "Delete the OneDrive Keys" as described here -
Make sure you change the permissions in KeyChain to allow everyone to modify the keys before you attempt to delete them.
So here's what temporarily worked for me -
Quit OneDrive app.
Open Activity Monitor, search for OneDrive and force quit them all -
All processes that have "OneDrive" in their name.
I found four: "OneDrive", "OneDrive File Provider", "OneDriver Finder Integration", and "OneDriver Networking".
Find all of the OneDrive instances you may have installed -
From the root ("/") in terminal run -
sudo find . -name "*OneDrive.app*" -print For each OneDrive version you may have installed -
Open terminal and run this command to clean up OneDrive: /Applications/OneDrive.app/Contents/Resources/ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command Or (depending on which version you have installed) /Applications/OneDrive.app/Contents/Resources/ResetOneDriveApp.command
Un-install OneDrive
Delete the OneDrive Keys (see above).
Then -
Install the latest OneDrive from the App Store.
Start OneDrive and login to your account.
This worked for a few days, but today I am again getting the "OneDrive encountered an unexpected error. Items may be out of date." error.
I read the update from Jack and the original blog post and many of the comments here, but I don't see this underlying issue being addressed.
Ankita Kirti and Jack: when will there be an update to OneDrive for Mac that actually works? I have given up on the M1 version, at this point I just want a version that works.
Update: I did all of the above, then from Excel I joined the "Office Preview" program (Help > About > Check for Updates > Advanced > set "Update Channel" to "Current Channel (Preview)". Then I downloaded the Office 365 OneDrive app and I'm now running version "22.027.0206.0002 (Standalone) (Apple silicon)". This version is now working, I'll continue using it for a few days and see if it continues to work.
