This update has now cost me almost 2 days of productivity. Losing AutoSave is a non-starter for me. I can't use my Mac for work until that gets fixed.
After the update, OneDrive seemed to have lost track of where the files were. Selecting "Open Folder" from the OneDrive menu bar icon did absolutely nothing. Unlinking and re-linking all my onedrive accounts did not fix this problem.
Doing a OneDrive reset (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/reset-onedrive-34701e00-bf7b-42db-b960-84905399050c) and then re-linking my OneDrive accounts fixed this, but the process was interesting.
The first time I did a reset and ran setup again, I tried to choose the CloudStorage folder as my OneDrive folder - thinking that was the right approach. Wrong. OneDrive created an alias folder - in the CloudStorage folder - pointing to the CloudStorage folder. 🤷🏼:male_sign:
So I tried it again, and this time I chose desktop as the target folder location - starting with my personal OneDrive since it only has a few folders. The setup worked - and it put OneDrive on my desktop. The setup created a OneDrive folder with the proper OneDrive icon on my desktop (vs. the std Alias folder icon). I opened an office file and - Auto Save worked! Unfortunately, this was not the end.
Out of curiosity - I wanted to see if OneDrive had just created a duplicate folder or if it was behind the scenes syncing files to the CloudStorage folder. I added a new file to the desktop OneDrive folder - then manually navigated to the CloudStorage folder to see if the new file showed up there. NOPE! But at the top of the CloudStorage folder for my OneDrive - it said I needed to restart OneDrive to enable syncing to this folder. Crap!
I restarted OneDrive - and the CloudStorage file started syncing, the OneDrive icon on my desktop reverted to a standard alias folder, and Auto Save stopped working again.
Then I thought that maybe my Office apps needed an update in order to restore Auto Save functionality. No dice. I updated to the latest version and Auto Save is still dead. The apps simply don't recognize that the file is on OneDrive and if I try to turn on Auto Save, I'm asked to move or copy the file to the cloud. But I'm not even give a choice of all my OneDrive accounts as a destination.
FUBAR.
