For anyone looking for an alternative - I've been testing Tresorit (https://tresorit.com/individuals) for the past couple of days, and it worked flawlessly - even better than OneDrive/Google Drive in terms of how you manage your synced content. I have an iMac as the main computer + a MacBook pro as a traveling/backup option. Here is the setup I was able to achieve without ANY ISSUES.
- I've made all the synced folders on the iMac. Tresorit allows you to select what folders you want to keep synced without moving them to a specific "main folder ex: OneDrive."
- It took me around 2days to upload and encrypt around ±260GB.
- I could use "Selective Sync" on the MacBook Pro on any online folder. Ex: I have a work folder that is 160GB. I only downloaded the active projects on the MacBook Pro and left the archive to be synced only on the iMac
- I selected my Photos Folder (it contains the main Photos app library) and uploaded/synced it. Once done, I disabled the sync. This way, I have a backup of that folder and can manually sync it every couple of weeks/months.
- They also offer a virtual drive that contains ALL your folders/Files with those cloud+arrow icons for "cloud-only" files (similar to how iCloud works)
Overall the process of moving my files to them was simple and painless. The only downside is the price:±100eur per year for 500GB encrypted storage. However, I realized I had too much bloat synced to OneDrive, and I could move those files to an External Drive (Ex: 44GB of game sound effects/music)
