This has completely destroyed my faith in OneDrive. I know it's not an official "backup" solution, but it was working perfectly until this change.
I wake up this morning to find that every file on my computer (600GB+, thousands of files and folders), have been switched to "online-only" and the location of my OneDrive folder moved. I did not authorize an update or consent to this change.
I do not want "Files On Demand". Move my folder, sure, maybe. Make me wait minutes upon minutes to retrieve a large PDF/Excel/Zip, no thank you. Delete my files from the computer immediately bypassing the Trash? No thanks. Give me NO OPTION to disable Files On Demand, nah, like really? No!
I will now be waiting days most likely for all of my files to "re-download"
If you lose your internet for some reason, you can still get to the actual "physical" local copies of your files in the cache here: "/Users/nick/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.OneDriveStandaloneSuite/OneDrive.noindex/OneDrive" Don't mess with that folder but at least you could grab something....
I will be moving all of my files back to a local location and hope I can find some alternative for this Files On Demand hot pile of garbage.
