So, my experience after all day downloading everything. I have two copies of all my files in two separate places. I know this because I'm using CleanMyMac from the App Store which shows the space being used with their Space Lens. These locations are:
Root = ~/Library/Cloud Storage/
Cache = ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.OneDriveStandaloneSuite/OneDrive.noindex
To get this far I have:
- Let all files be processed as if it's a fresh install.
- Selected all my OneDrive in Root, right clicked and selected "Always keep on this device".
- Made sure I have clicked on any cloud icons within Root to force the download of the files for local use.
Now this means the OneDrive app acts as it did prior to this update. When adding files to these "always on device" folders the files sync to the cloud, additional devices that use the same OneDrive and also keeps the local copy in OneDrive on your machine. The same occurs when you delete files.
My ONLY issue is the fact that twice the amount of space is taken up; whereas I'm pretty sure this wasn't the case previously, correct me if I'm wrong. I have tried deleting the Cache files and OneDrive freaks out, restoring the trashed files fixes this after a quick app restart. Removing individual folders from within Cache deletes it from the Root.
So for some reason, the updated OneDrive Downloads a copy to Cache and then makes a copy of that into Root. Root and Cache then check with each other for any changes and updates accordingly.
