I hate the fact that developers and companies ALWAYS find a way to screw up a good thing. Working perfectly fine for me. I've moved from Dropbox > Google Drive > Dropbox > OneDrive. Once Google changed the say it sync'd files, I dropped them. And frankly, I'm getting tired of this. I will not hesitate to move from OneDrive and cancel my Microsoft365 family account. At this point, I might just bite the bullet and build myself a QNAP or Synology NAS and have access to my data how I choose.
I'm a photographer and this is my setup:
- Mac mini - 1TB SSD
- 2TB WD Black SN850 NVMe SSD (I have my OneDrive folder here). I work from this HD 99% of the time. I went with the fasted external SSD option I could get at the time because I'm editing 4/5/8k videos and large format RAW photos (large video/photos).
- 8TB WD Black D10 (data storage that isn't accessed to much)
- 5TB LaCie HD that I use for Time Machine backups.
All of my externals are backed up via Backblaze. But when I'm on the go, I can simply take my 2TB external SSD and work off my MacBook Pro with no issues. All of my files are on that drive and it's constantly synced. I'm not happy about this forced 'sync root' location and hope this 'cache path' thing works. If it doesn't, I'm out.
