With the best will in the world, I cannot understand how Microsoft can make such decisions, even though I fully understand the advantages of Microsoft 365 and the cloud. There are organizations that cannot simply migrate to the cloud (due to regulations, etc.). Do they really want to “discontinue” the on-premises installation without regard for the consequences? In my opinion, SharePoint without document previews can no longer be seriously considered a product, given that documents are the biggest use case for SharePoint in the first place. I can only hope that this decision will be reversed, as some others have been in the recent past. Regardless of the final outcome, such statements leave a very bad taste in the mouth when it comes to dealing with loyal Microsoft customers. A good example of how to further destroy long-established trust... very sad.
