Hello, I truly apologize for the delay but I missed the notification on this comment. I apologize for the mistake in my article, you're right, at this point WinAppDriver isn't open source.  I don't know the answer to your question unfortunately because I don't work in the WinAppDriver team. My suggestion is to open an issue with your question on the GitHub repo: https://github.com/microsoft/WinAppDriver/issues The team actively monitors and engage with developers there.
