Because I have to struggle with OneNote on a daily basis, I need to voice my opinion on this.
It's good that both OneNote versions will be unified. But...
Please let us choose a more minimalistic interface!
I use OneNote now almost daily for over 4 years (doing physics and math with a stylus).
I have started with "OneNote 2016" and then switched to "OneNote for Windows 10" only because of its better design.
I only use the "draw" ("Zeichnen") tab of OneNote and it is soo much better in "OneNote for Windows 10"!
Especially in fullscreen mode.
Also please integrate the Navigation Menu of "OneNote for Windows 10" into the new OneNote!
The touch support in general is so much better in "OneNote for Windows 10".
Please don't let the users hang who use OneNote as a pen and paper replacement and invest in a touch friendly and minimalistic interface!
Also there are a few features, that would DRASTICALLY improve the experience of doing math related work in OneNote:
- Drawing straight lines: Notability has the feature to draw a straight line and then hold the pen down at the end of the line to make it straight. You have no idea how great such a feature would improve my experience with OneNote!
- DIN A4 Paper view: for many things I need to export OneNote notes into a PDF. Both versions of OneNote make this pretty annoying.
In "OneNote" the A4 paper view only shows 1 page! In "OneNote for Windows 10" printing is pretty messed up.
Just make a view with infinite extension in the vertical direction, but a variable width and then show us where one page ends and print this exactly as show in this view.
The variable width is importand because different people like to have OneNote in different Zoom levels. I always use the middle sized grid as background and with the current A4 view it is much to small!
- better performance of making(or removing) extra space. This feature is so important in my workflow but it is utterly slow. I have to guess how much it will move because it always(!) freezes and loads only after a few seconds after removing the pen.
- smooth pen pressure on the lowest pen size. Many people I know use the smallest pen size and it always looks aweful because of the missing pressure sensitivity
Please Microsoft, please! OneNote could be the best paper replacement for doing math but I currently think about switching to another program because of these missing features and the bad performance. Not to mention all the bugs that one encounters on a daily basis.
