The ruler was a superior way of drawing lines. It allowed one to easily place a straight line and visually understand where it was going to be in relation to other elements on the board. While mimicking an analog method (in this case a ruler and protractor on paper) in a digital product is not always beneficial, in this case it was. Best of all the code was already done and it worked. Removing it only lessens the product.
If one is working in tablet mode, there is no <SHIFT> to press to force a straight line. While one can select a line in the Shapes menu, I would be remiss if I did not point out that a line is not a shape...at least not in any geometry text I know of. Yet lines are fully one third of the included shapes in the menu, more if one includes the closed arrow. I am pretty sure any high school sophomore could have suggested a few more shapes.
As others have pointed out, there is no longer a Save as SVG option. There is a reason that people want a vector graphic format; it scales properly while maintaining full fidelity. Raster formats do not. Again, the code was already in the product and working, so removing it lessens the product.
I am baffled why in trying to improve the product, so many features that users clearly took advantage of and appreciated were removed. For what? Reactions? It seems to me that this upgrade is perhaps a downgrade.
