We continue to update the usage reports in the Office 365 admin center to provide you with a complete picture of how your organization is using Office 365. You'll notice the following enhancements today.

  • The existing SharePoint activity report will be enhanced with additional user activity information (page views: number of pages a user has visited). The number of Files Shared internally and externally on the same report are being updated to fix a data issue.
  • The existing SharePoint site usage report will be enhanced with activity information from all site types (in addition to groups and team sites) and additional site activity information (page views: number of pages viewed in a site and number of unique pages visited in a site).

Due to this update, you'll likely see a spike in activity in the SharePoint activity and the SharePoint site usage report. If you are using the Office 365 Adoption content pack in Power BI, you'll also see a difference in the active user numbers for SharePoint between the data in the reports and the data in the content pack. Please follow the public Office Roadmap for more information about when the changes will be reflected in the Office 365 Adoption content pack.

Due to the fix, you'll see a difference in the split of files shared internally and files shared externally.

Nice to see this report. Can you shed some more light on the Page Views element? Is it just the root [Home/landing page] of the Site/Site collection or any unique pageview in a SP site? cheers Paul

Is it possible to run that report on different levels in the tenant´s site structure or does it only provide a total overview?

  • Hi Dirk, when you click into the reports, you can see ifnormation broken down by the individual user. We're planning to bring the additional activity information into the Adoption Content Pack with the next update. In the content pack, you can filter by AD attributes such as department, organization and location.

    Thanks,

    Hi Anne,

Earlier we use to get the option to select the data specific to team or group sites in the SharePoint usage report which is no more available. Please let us know if you have plans to roll that out again.

  • Hi Omi,

you can still filter by that information but we've moved it to the table. When you click on the "column" icon, you can add additional fields including a field called web template id, which lists all the site types.

    Thanks,

    Anne

  • Hi Anne Michels,

This is awesome. Do you know if there's any option to get the usage details using an API endpoint as well? If not, is this on the roadmap?

    Thanks,

    Tobias.

Is it possible to run a report for specific site\site collection?

Is it possible to access this data through API\Powershell?
