Today’s announcement is a guest post from Tiffany Treacy, product management General Manager for Microsoft 365 administration.
Today, we’re pleased to announce that the new Microsoft 365 admin center will become the default experience for all Microsoft 365 and Office 365 admins. Each month, more than 2.7 million admins use the admin center to empower their users to be productive, collaborate, and stay secure. At Ignite last September, we previewed a new admin experience that offers new levels of efficiency and insight, customizable for the unique needs of each role, team, and organization. Since then, we have honed the admin center with helpful feedback from our admin community.
Simplify IT management with the Microsoft 365 admin center
Admin.microsoft.com is every admin’s common entry point for managing applications, services, data, devices, and users across Microsoft 365. The admin center is highly customizable, so you have quick access to the data and tasks you use the most, with the ability to dive deep in specialist workspaces. Common but high-value tasks like user and device management have been simplified and centralized in the admin center to make you more efficient so that you can focus your time on strategic initiatives.
The admin center surfaces pressing and relevant information and suggests service deployments or configurations that help your users be productive and collaborative while keeping sensitive company data secure.
Get started quickly and easily with a new setup and onboarding tools
New features within the admin center guide you through both the initial setup and ongoing optimization of your tenant. When you first log in to the admin center for your new Microsoft 365 subscription, Microsoft will guide you through the initial critical steps to getting the most out of your apps and services, including adding a domain, adding users, and downloading Office.
To return to the setup process at any time, or for other recommendations of services and settings to help your users, the updated “Setup” tab provides an organized list of the services available within your subscription, along with more information and step-by-step deployment instructions. Every service here has a default configuration based on industry standard best practices, or you can drill down into more advanced setup options.
Empower collaboration with new groups management
Office 365 Groups powers the modern workplace as a centrally managed and governed membership service that enables users to work collaboratively with tools like Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint. Office 365 Groups is managed in the Groups section of the admin center alongside security groups (for access control) and distribution lists (for emailing lists of people). We’ve redesigned the workflow to make it easier to see all your organization’s groups in one place, check the status of important settings like privacy, and take quick actions like managing membership and ownership. This is a new level of visibility and ease of management for groups, enabling IT to empower user productivity while keeping your organization secure by managing access to shared files.
