William Devereux, I think we would appreciate it if you could spare us the "PR" and give us some honesty here. You cannot possibly think that the current version of OneNote for Windows 10 even remotely compares with OneNote 2016 - you're not doing yourself or Microsoft any favours by trying to spin it like that. OneNote for Windows 10 is effectively "OneNote Lite", as I'm sure you and the OneNote team are well aware.
If there are good technical reasons to make the switch then some statement along the lines of "We appreciate that the present incarnation of OneNote For Windows lacks many of the features of OneNote 2016 but we are working hard to bring those over before support for OneNote 2016 ends" would seem appropriate. It is deeply worrying to many of your users with their diverse requirements that Microsoft would purport to think that OneNote Lite was "the best version of OneNote on Windows". A cursory glance at your uservoice forums shows that many people would like more features added to OneNote, not see functionality removed.
On a personal note, I've just spent several thousand pounds upgrading my home PCs. I have an iPhone and iPad so a Mac would make sense for me. However OneNote is the main app I use in my life and OneNote for Mac is essentially OneNote Lite too. I therefore decided to go for Windows 10 as I wanted a "proper" version of OneNote - it was specifically this which swung it for me.
Microsoft, please reconsider your decision and continue to develop OneNote for desktop.
