The black screen result can be from other settings as well as an Edge problem. You may want to check to see if your Graphics drivers are the current ones. I usually perform a clean install on my Nvidia drivers from Nvidia in case there was corruption in current driver.
The other thing to check in Edge : Go to Settings "..." . Click on settings 'gear' . Then click on 'About Microsoft Edge' in the lower left of screen. If there is an update for Edge it will start and ask you to restart Edge.
If there are any fixes for the version of Edge you are using they will be updated then.
You will then see a button to restart Edge again.
Is this the only place you see a black screen ? Have you submitted the issue to Feedback Hub ?
In Feedback Hub there is a place where you can record the symptoms you experience and then they can be reported to Microsoft. It does help considerably if Microsoft knows the steps you took prior to the black screen happening. Then they can tailor the software to fix the issue.
There are a number of other avenues including reinstall of Edge. Have you ever tried the 'Get Help' app ? You can open the app by clicking the 'Windows' key in the lower left of screen and click on the 'Get Help' icon under the 'G' listings.
