Utter frustration with this update. Please, PLEASE be more proactive in halting updates when the push begins and reports start rolling in.. There were several issues posted to the GitHub at the onset highlighting the breaking changes this (and related Fluent UI updates) caused to declarative list formatting with JSON.
I've built several little controls onto a list with JSON-buttons and 'setValue' action, some relying on 'inline-edit' function, some using icons instead... ALL of it broke (and were talking basic set person field to '@me' and clearing basic strings out of text-fields). I have a regular workload, and I've been sidelined trying to fix these MULTIPLE issues pushed by Microsoft updates. I am trying to make up the difference of lost functionality through PowerAutomate, but that is time consuming and not 1-for-1 with what I have built.
I've tried sorting out the JSON -- I have one column format where 'setValue' is working.. i've copied it clean to another column on the same view and it doesn't work. DevTools console throws a syntax error for "Unexpected end of JSON input" and points the 'cdn.office' js files.. so it feels like there is nothing I can do..
I don't normally post as the community usually articulates my frustration better than me. That is true this time, but it feels like we're all being ignored. This blog is where I started tracking (and was actually excited for this update), then issues started to pop. There were several good responses to this blog, and several posts elsewhere in various ms forums. I started tracking the Github-issue tickets for both 'SharePoint/sp-dev-docs' and 'pnp/List-Formatting' thinking I would see more traction on fixing this rollout... but it seems like they will just sit open with low priority (https://github.com/SharePoint/sp-dev-docs/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+List+Formatting). I was close to having my customer on board with all these incoming updates too, and now I am left with no information on why the few things they were using are suddenly broken with no timeline fix. I feel completely hamstrung really have no desire to try and sell anything Modern-Sharepoint to them anymore.
I still consider myself a new developer, even though I have been working on SPO for the last 4 years, but I am starting to feel like I will not move beyond this stage as everything I have built on this platform is constantly under threat of breaking changes.. it feels a bit dramatic to even type that out, but when I start seeing incremental breaks to my stuff for a solid year at this point, what else am I suppose to do? I am clearly not the only one feeling this way, and will certainly not be the last if this direction does not change. I WILL NOT continue to develop on a platform that is continually developing AGAINST me.
