The removal of formatting from comments is cumbersome and completely unuseful.
We use comments in templates to provide built-in guidance to the authors.
Once again you make feature change decisions by stakeholders who are not actual users of the product. I have been a Word expert user since it first came out close to 30 years ago, and I have no polite words for this.
For anyone looking for a workaround for this:
Colors: If you write your comment and in the body of your document using fornt colors, and then copy&paste that into a comment, it will retain font colors.
Bullets and numbered lists: the above will not work as they will be turned into characters and lose wrapping/indentation, so will look off, but will be there.
If you have an pre-modern formatted comment that uses bullets and/or numbering, if you copy&paste it into a new comment, it will lose its formatting when initially saved. Edit the new comment and re-paste the pre-modern comment, the formatting is retained and you can change and add to it...
