The changes made to commenting in Track Changes have stopped me being able to do the job I get paid for. I am a very experienced text editor. The automatic change happened in the middle of a large job and left me fuming. The editing program has lost functionality.
The changes seem to have been made to align Word more closely with PDFs but as any editor worth their salt will tell you, editing or proofing on PDF is clunky and inadequate. Word WAS the program of choice. Clearly the developers and coders did not consult with people who use Track Changes to edit texts every day of their working life.
Some problems:
1. I cannot format my comments. This is ESSENTIAL for my work. I need to highlight, bold, colour, change font size, etc, in order to communicate effectively to clients.
2. I want to be able to see all my comments without needing to click on those silly bubbles to find them. I could see them at a glance before.
3. I want to post a comment simply by pressing Enter, not Command+Enter. I post hundreds of comments; it is beyond tedious that you have lengthened a shortcut!
Please fix urgently or delete this program until you have beta-tested it on hundreds of text editors of decades' experience. Respect the good position Word has as the text-editing program of choice, and the experience of people who use it constantly.
I have already lost a day's work on a job that is urgent.
