The latest upgrade has a nasty little flaw.
Having disabled modern comments in the options at the start of this debacle, I discovered that the latest update had reapplied Modern Comments again. I could still go into Options and deselect it, but some of the behaviour appears to remain.
What is particularly annoying is that every time I insert a new comment or edit an existing comment, it opens up the review panel alongside the document. I do a lot of work on a small laptop (particularly now I'm travelling again) and this eats up 20% of my screen. I can switch to modern comments, but that wastes even more of my screen space.
DOES NOBODY AT MICROSOFT UNDERSTAND WHAT A LAPTOP IS? It has a small screen, where every pixel is precious.
Can I suggest that whoever is working on the development of modern comments is given the task of working on a large, complicated document whilst travelling in a packed economy cabin on a transatlantic flight. I want to be able to use every square millimeter of screen space. I turned off the ribbon years ago. I do not want modern comments to eat up the remainder of my screen.
Dear Modern Comments developers. This is still unfit for purpose. You have turned a professional word processor into a toy. Please listen to the people on this forum. Most of us want to help, because we want a productive tool. We are more than happy to engage with you to explain how professional editors work. It appears you have not represented those needs in whatever functional requirements were produced for modern comments.
