I can confirm that if you turn updates back on and update Office, you get back to the old comments. It's a wonderful feeling to see the old version back, with more screen to use and comments in line with the text.
Thank you Microsoft for listening. It's just a pain that it's taken you so long to do anything.
If there is anyone from Microsoft monitoring these comments, you've probably realised that there are a load of professional editors out here who have a lot more experience of what is needed in a word processor than the people within Microsoft who put together the feature requirements for this dire upgrade. If you really want to improve the commenting and reviewing experience and tools, please ask us. I am sure there are many who have commented who would be happy to help improve Word, rather than seeing it broken. I would be more than happy to provide input. All I can ask, is please don't break it again - ask for advice on what is needed first.
